Did you ever make a decision that you still regret to this day? Maybe a wrong turn that ended up in an accident, or an overpriced purchase that you are still paying for. For the following musical artists, that bad move turned out to be career altering, and not in the way they had probably hoped.

Chance the Rapper – “Somewhere In Paradise ft. R. Kelly”

Chance the Rapper is a Chicago-based hip-hop artist who started to rise to fame while he was still a high school student. By working with big names like Childish Gambino, his third mixtape, The Coloring Book, went onto win a Grammy for best “Original Hip Hop” recording. However, this success was also met with some controversy.

Around the time that the Coloring Book was release, Chance teamed up with another Chicago based hip-hop act, R.Kelly. For the single “Somewhere in Paradise” Kelly provided a verse and backing vocals. In 2019, when the allegations of sexual assault and misconduct came to light in a tell-all documentary series, Chance came under intense scrutiny for his collaboration with Kelly.

Although this did hurt his career, Chance was quick to apologize for this piece of work and distance himself from R.Kelly. Chance’s lastest album 2025’s STARLINE was a sales success.

Madonna – “American Life”

Madonna is still the “Queen of Pop” but that’s not to say she hasn’t had some missteps in her career. In 2003, Madonna put out “American Life” notable as the song contained political messaging, unlike most of her discography. The track looked to tackle subjects such as the hollowness of fame, poverty, and the treatment of minorities living in modern American society.

The track ended up receiving harsh criticism due to many finding the song’s messaging muddled, and also a little tone deaf, coming from one of the world’s most popular entertainers. It also contained a brief rap section, which Madonna didn’t quite pull off.

Moby – “We Are All Made of Stars”

Moby has had an interesting career. Bringing electronic music to the mainstream with his smash album, Play, he has always been seen as somewhat of an underground artist. However when he took a chance to place himself even further into the top 40 realm, the choice came back to hurt him.

“We Are All Made of Stars” is probably Moby’s most accessible song, but that doesn’t mean it’s one that people enjoyed. Verging closer to alternative rock of the early 2000’s many critics pointed to Moby’s lack of creativity with some even going so far as labeling the track a “sell out”. It didn’t help the song itself wasn’t garnering the right kind of attention, with many tuning into to hear the corny, and overly sentimental lyrics.

RedFoo – “Literally I Can’t”

RedFoo, one half of the insanely popular 2010-era party rock group LMFAO, went solo to produce this 2014 track to…underwhelming results. LMFAO always felt like more of a gimmick than a band, creating shallow, but fun music to play as loud as possible at a club. However when RedFoo decided to make another run at his past success’s, the track was dead on arrival.

Dated production that felt all too familiar, and some questionable lyrics punching down to some of the group’s fans, left a bad taste in everyone’s mouths, and forced RedFoo out of the spotlight.
